July 17 * At the congress of the International Society of Surgery, 400 world-renowned surgeons awaited an address by Dr. Banting, the discoverer of the Insulin cure for diabetes. When Dr. Banting mounted the platform there was an expectant hush. Dr. Banting, who obviously was nervous, began in a rapid, colourless monotone about the technicalities of his subject. When he referred to Insulin, he took exactly one minute to cover the wonderful discovery, and then stopped abruptly and left the hall hurriedly before the audience had time to applaud.

Later he stated his researches were not finished, and he was not going to say a word more. ,
