THE MOTUMAOHO' BRANCH. FREIGHTS ON RAILWAYS. [BY TELEGRAPH.OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON. Thursday. The following remits were passed by the Motumaoho; branch of the Dairy Farmers' Union for consideration at the Palmerston North conference : — That the Government be asked to reduce the rate of interest on advances from the Advances to Settlers' Department for the payment of existing mortgages to that charged for ordinary advances, and that the limit of advances be increased from £2000 to £3000. v That the' Railway Department be urged to reduce the freight on dairy produce, which is 153 per cent, above the 1014 level. " ~ • "It was stated that the rates on ordinary business lines have only been increased from 50 to 60 per cent., and that the dairy industry was unduly burdened.

LARGE; OPENING MEMBERSHIP.

[BT TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] PUNT. Thursday. Mr. A. E. Fear, organising secretary of the Dairy Farmers' Union, addressed a meeting in the Puni Hall on Tuesday evening. Mr. T. Varney was voted to the chair. Mr. Fear emphasised the need for more unity among dairy farmers. The meeting endorsed the speaker's remarks and decided to form a branch of the union. The following officers were elected President, Mr. S. J. Murry ; secretary. Mr. T. Varney; committee'.. Messrs. Dixon, McNeil, McLeod, Adams and J. Watkins. A total of .42 members was secured.
