GOVERNMENT OF SAMOA.

ELECTIVE COUNCIL URGED

IRKSOME RESTRICTIONS.

A. and N.Z. SYDNEY. March 22. Mr. 0. F. Nelson, chairman of the Sarnoan Citizens' League, is visiting Sydney. Interviewed regarding the administration of the group, he said that what Samoa most wanted was an elective Legislative Council to govern in accordance with the requirements of the people and their financial capacity. There were a number of foolish restrictions which required to be swept away. The travelling permit system was irritating, and the indentured labour regulations far too drastic. With sensible administration he saw no reason why Samoa's future should not be bright. He considered that the drift of Island trade from Australia was the natural evolution of direct trading with the markets of the world, hastened by Australia's own I action in imposing trade restrictions.
