TOUR OF M.C.C. TEAM.
DISAPPOINTMENT IN SYDNEY.
DREARY CRICKET PLAYED.
A. and N.Z. SYDNEY. March 21. The Sydney Daily Telegraph, commenting on the tour of the M.C.C. team, says that the tour failed to reach expectations. The trip may have improved some of the players, but it has not been the success it might have been. Mr. MacLaren's promises upon arrival that the team would play lively cricket, not play for draws,- were not fulfilled. With a few notable exceptions, the cricket, particularly in the last three matches, was dreary, without interest and exasperated the public. The Telegraph considers that Chapman, Gibson, and possibly another player are almost certainties of inclusion in England's next test team to visit Australia. . The article concludes : "We cannot see too much of Chapman, who has improved wonderfully, and can be ranked as one of the finest all-round players in the world."
