BIBLE IN SCHOOLS.
4> QUESTION OF INSTRUCTION. DISCUSSION BY WOMEN. [BY TELEGRAPH. — ASSOCIATION.] IKVEUCARGILL. Saturday. At the Women's Christian Temperance Union conference to-day, Mrs. Driver spoke strongly in regard to the want of Bible instruction in schools, and stated that Dunedin was the only large town in the Dominion where religious instruction was regularly given. She said Mr. Massey promised to introduce legislation dealing with the subject. Mrs. Perryman said power was in the hands of the women to remedy the defect, and Miss Atkinson stated that 98 per cent, of the Nelson ,children received religious instruction in school hours. Miss Henderson said many large schools in Ghristchlrch received religious instruction. Mrs. Williams said the union should not be ratisfied until religious instruction was given in school hours. In Dunedin the Ministers' Association, deaconesses, and Mrs. Driver gave Bible teaching from 9 to 9.30 a.m., and if this were allowed in Dunedin it should be allowed in every school in the Dominion.
