Major-General , Sir Edward Chaytor, general officer commanding the New Zealand militaiy forces, arrived in Auckland from Wellington on Saturday and returned to the South last evening.

The Rev. A. M. Costain has been appointed to the Greytown-Featherston circuit for a further term of one year. At the end of that time he has been granted leave of absence to enable him to proceed to England.

Dr. W. C. Mac Knight, who has been medical superintendent of the Taumarunui Hospital for the last 10 years, has resigned and is leaving the district. Dr. Welby Fisher has been appointed to succeed Dr. Mac Knight.

The Hon. A M. Myers will arrive in Auckland from Sydney by the Manuka to-morrow. He is accompanied by Mrs. Myers and their two daughters, and will make an extended stay in New Zealand befor» returning to England.

The Rev. C. H. Laws, principal of the Methodist Theological College, will leave Auckland on Fiiaay by the Manuka for Sydney, en route to England. He w}U be away for about 12 months and will attend the conference of the Methodist Church in the Old Country. Last evening Dr. Laws preached a farewell sermon at the Pitt Street Methodist Church.

Mr. J. Haughey, who has been appointed headmaster of the new school at Takanini, arrived there on Saturday from the Waikato in time to be present "at tie opening of the new building. Mr. Bciughey has been in charge of the new school .it KarnpirD, Cambridge, for the past 12 montlhs, and prior to that served under the Wellington Education Board for a period of 22 years.

MINISTERS' MOVEMENTS.

The Hon. G. J. Anderson, Minister for s Mines and Marine, arrived at Westport on Friday, from Nelson, states a Press f ]l Association message. He visited the Westport Coal Company's mines at Dennistoa, officially, opened the school of mines ' at, Granity and visited Charleston. This' morning the Minister will make a tour of C the harbour works, and later will confer V with the Harbour Advisory Committee. He will leave for Reef ton in the afternoon. .."".'"

Parr, Minister for Education, opened the hew school at Takanini on Saturday afternoon, and fn the evening visited the fruit \ and flower show at Henderson. „ The Minister left for the South last evening. To-day he will open new nehoof at Marten Junction, and then proceed to Wellington.
