LOW TIDES IN THE GULF.

DUE TO WESTERLY WINDS.

SMALL COASTERS DELAYED.

The strong westerly winds which have been experienced at Auckland during the past two weeks have been responsible for very low "tides in the Hauraki Gulf. This has caused considerable delay to some of the' small coasters working the gulf ports. . The Pono has been delayed at Waipu for a week. She was fast on a bank in the river for three days, after being delayed outside for two days by the rough sea on the bar. After some of the cargo had been lightered the vessel was floated off the bank and berthed. The shallowness of: the bar prevented her sailing for Auckland, but she was expected to get away yesterday. Similar occurrences are reported from other gulf ports. Shallowness of the river delayed the Omana at Silverdale on Friday, and in consequence her week-end trip to Arklc's Bay was cancelled.
