SEVERAL WEEK.END OUTINGS The New Zealand Herald employees' annual pionio was held at Brown's Island on I Saturday, when the outing proved thoroughly enjoyable. In the afternoon a sports meeting was held, with the following results: — I Herald Handicap. 100 yds.— heat: W. I Thompson, 1; C. Wiggins, 2; Whaley, 3. Second heat: J. Cullum, 1: S. Menzios, 2; A. The cup for most points gained by each i department was won by the news department, with the front office second. There were also several novelty events and races I for the children. The music provided by Eadv's Band added greatly to the enjoyment of the outing. The Newmarket Railway Workshop employees held their annual picnic at Papakura on Saturday. Quite 1000 people made the journey and took part in the various sports and amusements which the committee had arranged. Jury's Band played musical selections during the day. The Otahuhu Band held a gala at Brady's Beach on Saturday, when there -was an attendance of about 2000' excursionists.. The fine weather assisted materially in the success of the outing. An open yacht race was • held and a number of foot races were run. ' while an interesting exhibition was Riven by a sanad of cadets. There was also a baby 1 show as well as the usual side-shows.
