EARLY COMPLETION URGED.

At a meeting of the executive of the Northern Bay of Plenty Farmers' Union, held this afternoon, a motion was carried unanimously urging upon the Government, in the interests of economy, increased production, and national efficiency, the early completion of the East Coast Main Trunk Railway, and especially an acceleration of the progress in building bridges at Tauranga arid in connecting Tauranga with Waihi. In view of the rapidly-increasing tourist traffic between Rotorua and Tauranga, and the growing importance of Tauranga as a port, the Minister for Public Works was urged to expedite the construction of a modern motor , traffic road from Tauranga, via Oropi or Akeake. to Rotorua. At a meeting of the Bay of Plenty Development League, held at Opotiki, a letter was read from Mr. F. W. Furkert, engineer- in-chief and Under-Secretary of the Public Works Department, advising in regard to the East Coast Railway that the present position was that every effortwas being made to expedite the completion of plani for the portion of railway not yet commenced between Waihi and Tauranga. The matter was being hurried on as much as possible. A considerable number of plans were already lithographed and immediately they were all to hand and the contract documents prepared the same would be advertised. A motion was adopted that Mr. Furkerfi be. thanked,for his letter.
