WAIHT MINERS' WAGES.
DEPUTATION TO PREMIER.
PROTEST AGAINST REDUCTION. [BY TELEGRAPH.OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON. Thursday.
The Premier was interviewed by a deputation from the Waihi Miners' Union, which made a protest against the Arbitration Court's last award. The deputation, which was introduced by Mr. H. Poland, M.P. for Oliinemuri, included Messrs. A. Parker, P. Roonan, D. Johnaton, and P. O'Rorke (general secretary of the Miners' Federation), supported by a number of Labour members.
It was stated that the wages fixed by the Court were too low, having regard to the cost of living, and it was suggested that if the Court, having consideration for mining companies' returns, fixed too low a standard for workers' remuneration, the Government should,. subsidise the mining to maintain an essential industry, securing workers therein a 'living wage.■'•■ Mr. Massey promised ato consult the Minister in charge of the Board of Trade regarding investigation of the company's accounts, and said he would consider if anything could be done, to improve the miners' position.
