INDIAN TRADE OUTLOOK
REVIVAL IN PROSPECT. COST OF LIVING DECLINES. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Heed. 10.5 p.m.) DELHI, Jan. 11. The Viceroy, Lord Reading, before leaving Calcutta, where he spent Christmas and New Year's Day, made a long speech before the Associated Chambers of Commerce. He talked at length on fiscal policy, hut gave no definte details beyond emphasising the necessity- for making both sides of the, Budget balance.
The general economic condition of India, he said, was more hopeful. Crops were good, and though the balance of trade was not in India's favour, the export trade promised a remarkable revival. The juts outlook was more promising. Trade generally, however, was still dull and cautious. Industries in India were still not feeling any real trade stimulus to activity. An important feature was the slow, but steady, decline in the cost of living during the last year, about 17 per cent.
