MATAKANA ISLAND, RETIRED ENGLISH OFFICERS [BX TELEGRAPH. — CORRESPONDENT.] TAURANGA. Friday. A scheme is afoot to settle apportion of Matakana Island, near Taur&uga, ,with retired English officers. At a meeting of the Tauranga > County Council to-day, a communication was read: from an Auckland firm of surveyors', sub- J mitting for approval the plan of the sub-j division of part of Matakana Island. : It i was staled that ample reserves'for rocre- j tition and all other public purposes had been made. The council decided that the engineer should visit the locality and, if he is satisfied with the scheme, that the plan be approved. ' '. Matakana Island is 12£ miles long and lies between s. the entrance to . Eatikata and Tauranga harbours.; , C 7
