RELIGION AND POLITICS.
Sir,—because I .presume to exercise the right common to all Catholics of ; forming my own political opinions," but because these .opinions differ from Shane O'Dala's, I have , " graduated from that . modern school (I was born more : than;;' half a century ago) whose platform is inoculated with the poison of Liberalism." Would my orthodoxy be more sound if I : : were " inoculated with the poison" of " Socialistic Labourism ? How to recon-. cile a " fondness for compromise": with the " dream of a future when- the spiritual, and temporal, will bo (uncompromisingly) . independent of each other'* is " beyond conception." If " statecraft" has become " a horrible nightmare of failure," why do not responsible ecclesiastics leave it alone? If "some nations are living ,to follow the gospel of hatred' and revenge," are not some responsible ecclesiastics preaching that gospel .by- ' perpetuating racial fends Pious platitudes benefit - neither • individuals ' nor communities; they offend God. and discredit man. Senex. .
