BOOTMAKER'S FAILURE.
BUSINESS AT DARGAVILLE. STATEMENT BY BANKRUPT. A petition in bankruptcy has been filed by George O'Connor, bootmaker, of Dafgaville. The schedule of bankrupt shows that the unsecured debts amount to £799 18s Id and the secured debts to £1288 3s, making total liability £2088 1b Id. The assets, are set down at £1983 17s, consisting of property, £1400 ; stock-in-trade, £420; surplus from securities in the hands of secured creditors, £111 17s; book debts, £50; cash, £2. There is thus a nominal deficiency of liabilities «f £104 4s Id. : ■'.";:::.-'::v/;f Bankrupt's written statement shows that he returned to New Zealand from the war in 1916, and ho then had . £30. He obtained • work as a barman at Rotorua, but, acting on medical advice, went to Wellington, He afterwards joined the Samoan, Constabulary, but three months later was admitted to hospital. \He was then invalided home and discharged. In July, 1920, he went to, Dargaville and, relying on the hope of a Government ad-, vance, procured a shop on '■; rental and bought some stock, payment for which was made with money borrowed from his wife. The application for money from the : Government Was refused.
