CANADIAN FARMERS.
INTOLERABLE TAXATION. DRIFT TO THE CITIES. A. and N.Z. VANCOUVER., Jan. 10. Mr. Burnell, president of the United Farmers' Association of Manitoba, in an address to the annual convention held at Brandon, Manitoba, declared that the exodus of farmers from the soil to the cities was destroying Canadian agriculture, and was creating a situation that threatened « the foundations of Canadian prosperity. More farmers were in financial . difficulty now than . ever before in spits of the fact that they, had been reaping record crops. The high taxes and the high rates of interest the farmers had to pay were creating great difficulty. Mr. Burnell advocated the adoption of a system of long-term financing at a low rate of interest, and shorttime credits adapted to .the needs of agriculture.
