PHARMACISTS CONFER.
DOMINION AND AUSTRALIA. - INDUCING 00-OPEBATIGN. TbY TELEGRAPH. —I'RESS ASSOCIATION.} WELLINGTON. Thursday. The conference of Australian and New Zealand pharmacists commenced this morning, the New Zealand remits being held over until to-morrow. The conference this morning was restricted to discussion of matters before the Australasian conference. , The president, Mr. Bailey, in his opening address, said that it was necessary that Australia and New Zealand should foster closer relations. Co-operation was very necessary in regard to defence, and/ the Pharmaceutical Society must organise a scheme of training to meet emergencies. With this in view, he submitted that apprentices, on a per capita basis should be specially trained to take charge of their branch in the array services. Sufficient attention was not being paid to pharmaceutical research. ''/ The election of officers resulted :— President of the session and untijl a successor is appointed, Mr. F. Castle; (president New Zealand Pharmaceutical Society) ; hon. treasurer, Mr./ J. .W. Cochran (Victoria); hbn. general secretary, Mr. C. L. Butchers; executive, Messrs. A. R. Bailey, A. Wadsworth, F. P. Gulley, J. Lunn and C. L. Butchers; delegates'", Messrs. A. Wadsworth (New South Wales),' A. R. Bailey (Victoria), S. Crawley (Queensland). F. Castle (New Zealand), F. P. Gulley (Western Australia);- auditor*, Messrs. S. Crawley and W. Archer (Sydney); scientific secretary, Mr. S. Crowley (Brisbane). It was decided to levy annual subscriptions on the membership basis, instead: of on a flat rate. A committee , was appointed to draw up a list of possible and desirable subjects for research, and to draw up some scheme to encourage students to make ! research in subjects chosen.
