BOY SCOUT CAMP.
TEN DAYS UNDER CANVAS.
NORTH ISLAND GATHERING.
A ten-day camp was recently hold at Palmerston North by boy scouts from the Wellington, Bulls, Palmerston North, Wanganui, and Auckland troops, < 229 boys ; and 25 officers attending. ' The camp, which was held on the Show Grounds, was commanded by the DeputyCommissioner, Mr. A S. Oxley, and with him were associated as camp adjutant, Mr. A. J.«Veart, quarter-master, Mr. J. Slipper; camp secretary, Mr. E. B. B. Boswell, and chaplain, the Rev. D. Campbell. The object of the camp was to give the boys general instruction in scout work, general field work being done in the day time,-with occasional treks, whfla the evonings were given up to lectures by the officers. The camp was under the medical supervision of Dr. J. Peach, and the health of the boys was good. One all-day trek of 14 miles was held, the Palmerston North reservoir, seven miles from the town, being visited. The boys stood the journey very well. Sports were held on New Year's Day, the public being admitted. The principal event was a circular rally by all the scouts. For the purpose, of competition the camp was divided into three sections, the West Coast, Auckland and Wellington. ThV field events and the swimming sports were won by the sections in that order. The results for the competition for the most efficient section, were: Auckland, 1; West Coast, 2; Wellington, 3. At the conclusion of the camp a concert was held, in which several local performers took part, and the boys' prizes were distributed. The camp is considered as having been. a great success, the boys having thoroughly /mjoyed the 'experience. "' '
