Tuesday, The Postmaster-General lias { furnished I the following particulars of the \ post, and" ! telegraph business transacted: at 17 chief J offices in the Dominion from December! 20 v to 23 (inclusive), ; 1922, Stamp sales -I amounted to £30,753, an increase of 1.11 j per cent, over - the sales for the corres- ' ponding period of. the : previous year. " : The : number of ; bags and hampers of mail matter 'forwarded from 117 offices wasl 46,761, an increase of . 7.96 per cent. . Of : this : number, : 10,108 were forwarded from j j Auckland, 6543 from Christchurch, . 4987 | ! from Dunediii, and 8471 ; from ;■ Wellington. [ Telegrams forwarded numbered 98,920, !an increase of: 1.94 per cent. Of these,' 17,686 were forwarded from Auckland, 12.277 rom: Christchurch, 8864 from' Dunediri; and! 22,525 from : Wellington. Tele-* grains received numbered 130,169. ■■ an increase of 5.89. per .cent. . As, these figures represent the business at the 17 principal office's, it is interesting to note that at the smaller Nor country offices, the work forwarded to ; cities has shown a greater increase than that between , cities.
