MANUREWA CLUB'S OPENING. - The opening of the Manurewa Bowling and Croquet Club was celebratod at the new lawns on Saturday. The weather was Bhowery, but there was a large attendance. The president, Mr. E. 8, Pegler, welcomed the ladies and visitors, and stated that tho green would do credit to a much older club. He acknowledged the conscientious work of his committee of 10 members, who had really carried the burden of labour and finance. Mrs.' E. S. Pegler threw the "jack." and tho greens were declared open for play. Several rinks tried conclusions for a few heads, till a heavy shower forced tho party and players to take shelter. The annual bowling tournament for the Goldfields Stars was played at Matamata on Saturday in showery weather, and wa« eontested by rinka from Waitn, Thamee, To Aroha, Paeroa," Morrinsville, and Matamata. The holders, Matamata, won their section and Te Aroha won theirs, and they met in the final.' Tho, result was a win for Matamata by 24 to 9- The final was played in rain.
