MASTERS AND OFFICERS.
INTERPRETATION OF AWARD.
A special meeting o2 the masters and officers of the Union Company vessels in port was held yesterday at the Merchant Service Guild rooms. Mr. Vincent A. Ryder, Auckland secretary, presided oyer a. large attendance. The meeting discussed the interpretation of several of the new clauses in the award just issued hy the Arbitration Court, included in which were ship-keeping, and the clauses relating to the consecutive eight hours work on colliers. Afterwards, Mr. Ryder stated that instructions had been received from the Wellington secretary, Captain F. A. Macindoe, regarding these clauses, and that the meeting was quite satisfied with the interpretations given. The meeting was in no way connected with the seamen's strike.
