CLUBS' . OFFICIAL OPENING. •'

SEVERAL" CEREMONIES HELD.

The summer Beason of bowling was ushered' in on various greens on Saturday. The weather wsi dull and threatening. A spring shower during the afteruon freshened up the greens, which were in excellent order. The Rawhiti, Mount Edcu and Ltuhuhu Clubs opened the season, the others playing club competitions. RAWHITI CLUB. 'At the opening of the summer season of the Rawhiti Bowling Club's green, croquet and tennis courts there was a good attendance of members, visiting bowlers and friends. After the- National Anthem had been sung the president. Mr. J. B. Paterson, said the club would control the tennis courts, which had hitherto been leased annually, but the Croquet Club will b 8 continued a3 before. The greens were in fine order though requiring rain. The president made special reference to the work of Mr. Bennett, green superintendent, and of Mr. Harvey, greenkeeper and caretaker. During the Winter a bowling tourn.imcnt was played, the winners being Messrs. T. Macpherr.in. Whyte, li Taylor and J. Uafrlam (s.). to whom prizes were presented. Mrs. Paterson. the wife of the president, threw up the kitty, and play commenced, a number of new players taking part. Miw Paterson played -the first ball on the tennis court and several ladies played on the croquet green. Amoni, those present wer» V.r. A. M. representing the Auckland Centre, and Mr. George, representing sister clubs. Afternoon tea was served by the ladies, and a Bering orchestra provided music, contributing to an enjoyable dav. MOUNT EDEN CLUB. The official opening of t'ie Mount Eden Bowling , Club was .attended by a large gathering. The greens were in excellent order. After the singing of the National Anthem, the president *tr. George Tutt. welcomed Mr.' W. Colttnan,. president of the Dominion .bowling Association, the ladies, and members •of sister clubs. He paid a tribute to Mr. Woolley, the green superintendent, and Mr. George Rodgers, the caretaker, for their excellent work. Mrs. Tutt then rolled up the jack, and the greens were declarod open. Mrs. Tutt and other ladies served afternoon tea. and an orchestra rendered music during the day.
