GENERAL ELECTION.
THE WEBTLAND CONTEST. PLENTY OF CANDIDATES. [BT TELEGRAPH. —OWN COBIIE9PONDENT.] CHIUSTCHURCH. Tuesday. The election in the Westland constituency promises to b« interesting, although at present much shuffling is going on. Mr, James O'Brien, manager of the Grey River Argus, has been chosen to again carry Labour's banner for the Beat. He will certainly go to the poll. That means that Messrs. T. E. Y. Seddon, Jesse Steer, and O'Brien are definite candidates for the seat, but rumours are that .mother candidate, even two candidates, may enter the lists, one a well-known Greymouth man, as an Independent and the other a prominent Hokitika resident, an an Independent Reform candidate. It is probable that Mr. Seddon will feel the effects of the strong opposition against him, and he will be lucky to regain his eeat. The Reform Party will do their utmost to capture this old Liberal stronghold, and it is understood a visit from a Minister is not unlikely. Support, such as this, would considerably improve Mr. Steer's already strong position.
