THE ARAHURA DELAYED
TROUBLE IN THE STOKEHOLD. OBJECTION TO PASSENGERS. CREW FOR NON-UNION STEAMER. The Arahura was delayed at the Queen's Wharf for over an hour yesterday afternoon owing to the stokehold hands objecting to six passengers who were travelling vessel to Napier. The passengers concerned were seamen going to join the steamer Baden Powell, which is engaged in a trade not governed by an agreement with the Seamen's Union, and can, therefore, employ nonunion men. On this ground the stokehold hands left the Arahura and held a consultation on the wharf. The difficulty was eventually overcome by the men to whom objection was taken, coming ashore, whereupon the stokehold hands returned to the steamer, which left the wharf at 6.15 p.m. The Aruhura's seamen continued their work during the dispute, and apparently did not'take any part in the trouble.
