THE AUSTRALIANS' TOUR. DEFEATED BY WELLINGTON. IBX TELIGKJLPH.—PIRESS' ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON. Wellington defeated Australia by 4 goals to 3. A crowd of 251)0 was present. Tbo gamo wag remarkably fast and full ol incident. In the first epell the Wellington forwards played fine hockey, outclassing their opponents, and Wellington led by 4 goals to 1. For the home team. Cousins, Kirk, Luety and Heapday scored. For Australia Seaman registered a goal. The play was by no means one-sided, but the superior combination and harder hitting of the homo team, who played a short passing game, were decisive factors. The Wellington halfback line was particularlv good both in attack and defence. In the second spell Australia had decidedly the better of the game, Wellington failing to score. Man/ infringements kept the home team on the defence and forward rushes . were very rare. The visitors almost contmu»i'y attacked, but missed many opportunity, and only wild shooting and over-eager-ness on the part of the Australian vanguard, who missed many centres, gave the home team the verdict. The Wellington backs were ireak, but Moore, in goal, did splendid work, being cheered foT repeated saves. For Wellington, Coueins shot into the net from a corner, but gave sticks in doing so. For the visitors, Kendall scored twice late in th.f spell.
