*» THE WORKERS' STANDARD. "The standard of living to be observed in gauging the rise of the cost of living," remarked Professor B. E. Murphy, in the i course of an address at Blenheim, "is the standard normally enjoyed and insisted on by the mass of the people—the workers. It is to them that the cost of living questions are most important." He went | on to remark that the necessaries for the efficiency of an ordinary worker in this generation might be said to consist of a well-drained dwelling with several rooms, warm clothing, pure water, a plentiful supply of cereal food, with a moderate allowance of meat and milk, a littlo tea., etc., some education, and some recreation, and, lastly, sufficient freedom for his wife from other work to enable her to perform' properly her maternal and household duties. .
