AUCKLAND'S SOUTHERN TOUR, THE FINANCIAL RESULTS. Mr. R. S. Webster, manager of the Auckland team on the Southern tour, in the course of his report to the Auckland Rugby Union Management Committee las', evening, stated that the largest gate was at Dunedin, where £825 was taken. Other gatis were: — Taranaki, £430; Southland (Wednesday), £400; South Canterbury, at Tirraru, £250; Canterbury, £400. The not cost of the tour was £806, against an estimate of about £1000. . . SYDNEY UNIVERSITIES BEATEN. EASY WIN FOR' OTAGO. [BX TELEGRAPH- —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] DUNEDIN. Wednesday. The match to-day between Otago and Sydney Universities was played in beautiful weather, before an attendance of 8000 persons. The game resulted in a hollow win for Otago. whose backs in the second spell dominated the play.. The game was one of the most spectacular exhibitions of passing ever seen here. In the first half the play did not reach a particularly high standard, opportunities being missed by both sides by faulty handling of the backs. The spell ended 10 points to 6 in favour of Otago. In the sjconcl spell Otago added 25 points, while the visitors only added one unconverted try. The scorers for Otago were: Mackeretli (2), Perry (2). Dickson (2). Cabot, Stewart, and Harfcy (one each). Four tries were converted by Kingston. Tries were obtained for tho visitors by Woodhead, Taylor, and FooLe, none being converted. UNDER LEAGUE RULES. ROOPE ROOSTER SEMIFINALS. Tho semi-finals of the Roope Roostor competition under League rules will be played at Carlaw Park on Saturday. Four teams remain in tho competition, and the final between tho two winning teams on Saturday will bo played on Soptember 30. It has been arranged that both games on Saturday will ho played on No. 1 ground. Newton will meet Ponsonby at 1.45 p.m. and City and Athletics at 3.30 p.m. Mr. Mincham will referee the first game. For tho CityAthletics ms.tch Mr. L. Bull has been appointed referee. Both games should provide .excellent contests, •'and much interest is being taken in them by supporters of the code. Hammiil, presiding. _ I Matters relating to the forthcoming visit of the Australian Loaguo representatives i were discussed. It was stated that the visitors would play three games on the Domain. The first would be against Auckland on September 16, the second against an Auck- i land provincial team on September 20, and the third againat a combined New Zealand and Australian team on September 23. The matter of entertaining the visitors was re- ; ferred to the League Glee Club, with the recommendation that a smoko social be held on the evening of September 16. A letter was received from Rotorua stating that a league had beon formed in the district. Great interest was being taken in the game and. three teams had been entered. It, was anticipated that another team would I havo to be formed owing to the dumber of i players desiring to play. Tho prospects for j next season were excellent. It was suggested that as an Auckland team was to be sent to ! Tauranga. arrangements should bo mode for I it to pT»y a, match at Rotorua. The secretary was instructed to reply that in the event of a team being sent to Tauranga an effort would be made to arrange a match to be played at Rotorua. It was decided to forward the letter to tho New Zealand League Council. The question of a visit to Auckland of Christchurch League- junior teams was discussed. A letter from the Christchurch League explained that Dr. H. T. J. Thacker, M P., desired to arrange for tho Kaiapoi third grade, and the' Linwood fifth grade teams to visit Auckland and play matches against the champion teams of the similar grades in Auckland. The date suggested for the games was September 25. Dr. Thaeker would accompany the teams, which would bo financed by him. It was decided to arrange the matches aa suggested. It wm decided to allot October 21 as the date for the match between the Sydenham Club, Christchurch, and the City Club, Auckland, for tho challenge match for the New Zealand League's Challenge Shield. A letter was received from the City Council stating .that action would be taken to protect trees in the Domain adjacent to Carlaw Park when matches were being played in tho Park. Tho chairman explained that people ware in the habit of climbing the trceo to witness the matches, with the result that many of the trees were being damaged. FIXTURES FOR SATURDAY. A meeting of the Cambridge Rugby League was held last evening for the purpose of considering the matter of a return match between Auckland and South Auckland. The following resolution was unanimously passed:—"The Cambridge Rugby League emphatically protests against the action of the South Auckland League- in arranging the Auckland v. South Auckland return match at Hamilton in direct contravention to the minute confirmed at their last meeting to have the match played in Cambridge. We also desire to point out that this gime was originally arranged in the sole interests of the League code in Cambridge, and not for any financial benefit. That a copy of this resolution be forwarded to ths Auckland Rugby League and the New Zealand Rugby League Council."
