FRENCH WARSHIP SUNK.
BATTLESHIP FRANCE. WRECKED OFF QUIBERON BAY LOSS OF THREE LIVES. By Telejtraoh—Frees Association—Copyright i, (Received 4.5 p.m.) N.Z. PARIS. Aug. 26. The battleship Prance, when returning from manoeuvres, struck a rock off Quiberon Bay, on the coast of Brittany, and sank in 11 fathoms. Three lives are reported to have been lost. The France was one of the most modern of t the French battleships. She was laid down in 1912 and completed in 1916, at a cost of # £2,603,920. She was of 25,100 tons v displacement and was armed with twelve 12in. guns, 22 5.5 in. guns, four three-pounders, and four submarine torpedo tubes. Her normal complement was 998.
