REMOVAL OF GREY STATUE.
PROGRESS OF THE WORK. The removal of the rockery around the Grey Statue in Queen Street is proving a longer task than was expected. The work was commenced at midnight ca Friday, and was continued on Saturday night and again last night immediately after the last tramcars had passed. Eight men and three carta are being employed, and it is anticipated that the .work will be completed by to-morrow. The marginal stones weigh on an average Bcwt. to lOcwl. The two Phoenix Canary Ensia palms growing on either side of the statue will have to be destroyed, as they have become too large to be transplanted. Iheir roots have become firmly embedded in ttie ground, and it will be "a hard task tp get them clear.
