WAGES FOR SHEARERS.
OTAGO AND SOUTHLAITD. MATTER SENT TO COURT. ,ka agreement has been reached with respect to hours of work aad other conditions, but no settlement could be arrived at on the question of wages in the dispute between the sbeepowners and shearers of the Otago and Southland districts. Mr. S. Borehain offered as the onion's' irreducible minimum ,fche following fiat rates, on condition that they should not be/liable to any future pro-nouncements---by the Arbitration Court: — Shearing flock sheep, 25s per 100; shearing hogget rams, rate and a-half £ shearing flock rams, double rates j preasers, £3 10s a week, or Is lOd an hour; other "shed hands, £3 5s or Is 9dj youths, over 15 and under 18, £2 6s or Is 4d; cooks, for 12 or less men, £4 a week; Over 12, wages to be agreed upon between cook and employer; cook's assistants, £3 6s 6d. These rates were not acceptable to the employers, and the wages clause was referred to the Court.
