Aug. 13. ; The Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve ten- ' dered a dinner to Sir James Allen, High Commissioner for New Zealand. Responding to a toast, lie referred to the New Zealand sheepowners* gift for the relief of distressed dependants of the men of the Navy and the mercantile marine. He eaid only £30,000 wag available so far for distribut'on. The sheepownors realised that their profits had been made possible because the seas had been kept open for them.
