THE CLOTHES TONIC.

" One of the best tonics to buy for post-influenza depression is a pretty hat and frock." This is quoted as having been said by a doctor, but whoever said it knew what ho was talking about, and had an insight into human nature, or rather feminine nature says a woman writer in an exchange. He might have added, too, that, the best' recuperative after spring-cleaning is new spring clothes! Whether it is a weakness, or not, to be influenced by pretty things to wear, it is hard to say, but it is an abnormal woman who isn't so influenced, and, though the other sex may scoff at us for this characteristic, we can retort with a good cfeal of truth that they don't much like tho type of woman who is witnout a little personal vanity. So let us be frank and own that> after suffering s tTIe miseries of influenza, or living with the smell of paint, and soap-suds, we are enormously cheered by having and seeing new clothes I And spring clothes have a charm all of their, own. These are delightful things to see, and even if you can't afford to buy any of the models, or'anything faintly resembling them, the sight of them is cheerful 'and exciting, as well as interesting.
