Aug. 15 Three young American players easily defeated the French Davis Cup team at the Newport Jawn, tennis tournament, to the surprise of everyone. Niles defeated Cochet, 6—2, 6—4; Jones defeated Borotra, 7—5, 2—6, 6—3; and Davies defeated Goberfc, o—6, 11—9, 6—l. Davies defeated , Wertheim, the Australian, 6—2, o—6, 6—3.
