IDLE AND DISORDERLY. SEVEN DAYS IN PRISON. Seven days' imprisonment was imposed by Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M., at the Police Court, yesterday, on Thomas Carrnody, aged 36, who waa charged with being an idle and disorderly peraon. The police evidence showed that accused was found wandering in Vv*ellesley Street at midnight, when he admitted that he had been drinking for U. week, and that he had done no work. Accused, who appeared] in' Court suffering from a very severe cold, waa stated to have several previous convictions. The Magistrate : The trouble is, he gets drunk, and gees off his head. The imprisonment will give him a chance to get over his cold. IMPRISONMENT. FOR THEFT. The theft of a pair of boots, valued at 255. was the . charge against Trevor O'Brien, aged 30, who was stated to be somewhat under the influence oi liquor at the time of the offence. Accused expressed his willingness to take out a prohibition order. The magistrate, however, remarked thai he had been before the Court too often, and imposed a sentence of sevgn days' imprisonment. BICYCLE THEFT ADMITTED. The offence of stealing a bicycle, valued at £4 10s, was admitted by a youth, 17 years of age. The police evidence showed that he was in the act. of selling the bicycle when arrested. He was convicted and remanded for sentence till next Wednesday. MEN CHARGED WITH FRAUD. *, A charge of obtaining £10 from Frank Bogus by falsely representing that he was owner of the fishing boat Ellen Martha, was made against Frank Hughes, aged 45. - A charge of conspiring with Hughes was preferred against William Reader Riley, >ged 38. Accused were remanded till next Thursday. $%i. BREACHES OF BY-LAWS. For driving a motor-car round a corner at more than a walking pace, Fred. Alexander was fined 20s and lis costs. Thos. Glanville was fined 5s and 21s costs for allowing his chimney to catch fire; and James Mairs was fined 10s and lis costs on a similar charge. A fine of 10s and 9s costs was imposed on Frank Hammerieh for permitting a horse to wander. For riding a bicycle without a light, Sydney Hesse was fined 30s and 9s costs; and, for leaving his motor-car without lights, James Robert Robertson wa» fined 10$ and lis costs. » DEFENCE PROSECUTIONS. Failure to return a military overcoat to the Defence Department was the charge against W.- J. Page. He was fined £5 and 9s costs, £218 a4dtogo to the Department as restitution. Michael O'Connor was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence on a charge 61 failing to notify a change of address. RAILWAY BY-LAW CASES. A charge of travelling on a railway train between Glen Eden and Hemlersoti without a ticket, was made againsit 8. Hosey. In a letter, defendant said ho had no deliberate intention of evading the law. A fine of £2 and costs 31b was imposed. For committing a nuisance on a carriage platform, William Charles Read was fined 10s and 31a costs. A month was given in which to piy.
