THE MUNICIPAL FISH SUPPLY.
Sir.—Mr. Bloodworih, in opposing th* sale of the council's Jixsb. business, remarked that fish was cheaper here than in the South. . That is not the question. We say that it is clearer in Auckland than it was before the city entered iafco competition. We have nothing to do with, the South, where conditions are jprobably quite different. Th© same thing happened with the oysters after the Government took over the industry. That succulent bivalve immediately became scarcer and more expensive. It is a wonder.ihafc our City Council ever embarked on tie fish business,, considering it had the, experience of Sydney to go by. There the city sustained a big logs after the firs* six months. Even if the people were getting cheap fish, they would be paying more rates, then where is the. gain? Puolic bodies do not shine in running public utilities, and the reason is not hard to discover.
