PREVENTION OF CRUELTY.
The committee of the Society for the Protection of Women and Children and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was presided over by the Rev. P. S. Smallfield.
The secretary reported 32 new cases in the women's and children's department. Of these 17 dealt with 'troubles between husbands and wives, six concerned children, two were affiliation cases, and seven general matters. Of three Court cases orders were granted in two, one being withdrawn. The in spector in the animals department reported that he had given 25 cautions in respect to animals cruelly used or neglected One case was taken to Court, the offender baing fined. Five animals were humanely destroyed. A legacy of £25 left to the society by the will of the late Mr. C. Famsworth was gratefully acknowledged. A vote of sympathy was passed with the widow o[ the late Mr. W. Thorne, who for many years was one of the hon. solicitors. , The Ladies' Committee handed over the sum of £107, net proceeds of the concert recently held by the Bohemian Orchestra.
