THE RUGBY GAME.

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE.

The Management Committee of the Auckland Rugby Union met last evening, Mr. H. Frost presiding.

The New Zealand Union confirmed the date, July 22, for the match, Maoris v, Auckland, to be played at Auckland. It waa decided that the charges for admission be one shill ng for the ground and one shilling for the etand. the New Zealand Union to be asked to include the aanusement tax in the price of admission.

Mr. P. Mcllwain was appointed manager of the Auck.and team to play Thames, at Thames, on Ju.y 15. The Auckland team. Trill be selected from North Shore. Univer-' eity. Newton, Eden and Grafton teams. The Koh mararna Club's application for coksrs—b.ack jersey, with 9in. white band —was agreed to. Trie New Zealand Union advised that J. L. Clarke, W. P. Smith and C. A. Ryder had been reinstated, on the recommendation of the Auckland Rugby Union. An application from the Kaipara Union for a representative match, to be played at Helensvilie, was referred to the Match Comm'ftee. It was decided to challenge the holder/? of the Ranfurly Shield during the Auckland team's southern tour, if practicable. The annual Grammar School v. King's College match is to be played on Saturday on a ground to be arranged. The Juni r Advisory Board reported that it ad decided to *>u*pnnd a player in the Post «nd Telegraph fifth grade team until December 81, 1023, for maliciously kicking an opponent. Hamilton from Rotorua to-day. The visitors were welcomed at the Waikato Hotel. Mi - . -J, McKinnon, president of the South Auckland Association, introduced tin team and wished them a pleasant game. The deputy-Mayor, Mr. W. F. Mason, in adding felicitations on behalf of the residents, remarked on the delight that it gave them to welcome players from Australia in the various branches of sport. Ho was sure the visit would give a good fillip to the association game in this country. At Sedckm Park there was an attendance of about 1500 to witness the match between the Australians and South Auckland. The weather was fine. The ground waa very sticky. Following were the teams:— Australia.—J. B. Bryant. A. Fisher, W. Mcßride. J. Cumberford, S. A. Storey, C. Sheaton, W. Dane. W. Bratton. J. W. Brown. D- Ward, and F. Thompson. . South Auckland kicked oft with the wind behind them, and from a paas by Marsh, Barnett missed a chance to .score. Australia attacked but South Auckland cleared and the ball was taken into Australian territory. Australia pressed and Dane made a great shot, but the ball hit the post. Mcliellan put in some pretty head passing, but Australia took charge and Davidson saved a hot shot from Fisher. South Auckland attacked and Hayes had a shot but missed. South Auckland contiaued to keep their opponents extended.' Australia then attacked and Fisher, from a good centre, tried to head a goal, but Davidson saved well. Half-time came with the score unchanged. On resuming, Australia pressed, and from a pass from Brown, Dane had an unsuccessful shot. For a time Australia attacked hotly- but Davidson made some wonderful saves. Play livened up considerably and several players were temporary casualties. Australia continued to put on the pressure, iiind Brown put in a hot one. but again Davidson withstood the attack. A merry five minutes in front of the South Auckland goal nearly a score, but Dan© made a bad shot and South Auckland cleared temporarily. Australia were not to be denied and South Auckland had to thank Davidson for no increase in the score. Dane made a nice centre and Brown at last found the net.
