BOROUGH COUNCIL VACANCY [BY TELEGKAPH. —OWN COIIB.E3FOVTOKNT.} JTAUBANGA. Friday. Nominations for the vacant seat on the Borough Council closed to-day. The only candidate nominated was Mr. B. C. Robbins, fonperly Mayor and borough councillor, who was declared elected. At a meeting of the committee of the Bay of Plenty Jockey Club, tie question of effecting building improvements to the Gate Pa Racecourse . was discussed and deferred until the annual meeting, which is to be held in about a fortnight. The farmers of the Omokoroa district, about 12 miles westward from Tauranga, f are veiy dissatisfied with the present mail service timetable. It is asserted that letters take as long as four days in reaching Tauranga. Representations- on the , subject are being made to the postal authorities and Sir William Hemes. Signs of the expansion of the dairying industry are indicated by the number of new .milking sheds'"; now in course of erection in various parts of the district. Maize picking operations are nearing completion, and. the yield generally is well up to the average of previous years. At a meeting of the Omokoroa branch of the Farmers' Union the touching officers were elected:—President,'Mr. C. E. Gane; vice-president, Mr. Briggs; secretary and treasurer, Mr. Dnxfield. A deputation was appointed to wait upon the dairy factory directors regarding alterations desired in certain matters. Mr. S. Steele was selected as a candidate for ♦the election of directors to the Tauranga dairy factory.
