LIQUOR SOLD BY AUCTION
HOTEL'S STOCK CLEARED. [Bt TELBGBAPH. —OWN OOBBESFONTDENT.] GISBORNE. FridayAn unusual auction sale took place in Gisborne to-day, and wag attended by several hundreds of people, when part of the stock in trade of a local hotel, seized under a distress warrant, was submitted. The sale attracted a considerable amount of interest, particularly in view of the fact that part of the seizure consisted of 75 cases of champagne, whisky, brandy, wines, beer, etc., the offering being closely guarded by the bailiff and a police sergeant. Under the conditions imposed by the Licensing Act the minimum lots to be sold were five gallons. 'This somewhat restricted the demand, but, nevertheless, there was a good sale, and the prices realised- were not far below wholesale rates. As a result of the sale Gisborne will have seme well-stocked cellars for the winter.
