HYGIENIC BABY CLOTHING.
"Wo eliminate every string from the baby clothes we use. and we allow no pressure anywhere. In this respect we arc earrviiig out the principles of Dr. Octavia Lewin, who says that the rhythm of respiration should not be interfered with in any way. For is not rhythm everything in life ?" Such was the statement recently made to a representative of the Evening News at the. Children's Clinic in Greek Street. Soho, London, when inquiring about the best '..ud healthiest type of infants' clothing. In proof of the assertion, a complete set of first clothes for a baby was produce,l. which demonstrated also another excellent point. All the garments were capable of expansion, by means of removable buttons. As the child crew, so its raiment, which most economical trait is very welcome to mothers. "1 insist on plenty of arm-hole room." said Dr. Lewin. "'in order that there shall be no girding-in that important, part of the bodv. where constriction is particularly had" for the baby. The sleeves of i the garments wo use are roomy, so that the mother may with ease guide her infant's arms into place when he. is being dressed. Three garments -were shown, a little flannel vest, with sleeves thrust through the amply large armholcs of a long flannel' and a white cotton gown fastened at the back. All the garments were cut low beneath the chin so that their was nothing ! above the collar-bone. There was no ! draught in any of the garments because, i though thev did not press upon any vein j or artery, they were so well thoi»;ht out that they protected and clothed the little 1 frame perfectly. j Instead of the flannel bodice there may he a soft white wool knitted one, made I of a straight piece of plain knitting with inset sleeves. These clothes weigh verylittle and are perfectly easy to put on a baby, who is got into his bodice and long flannel in one operation, and then only needs to have his gown put on. which when he is turned over can he fastened quickly at the back. That is the first baby clothes stage. The. second comprises a bodice, with speci-ally-cut knickers, roomy, comfortable, easily washed, and not draughty, with buttoned-up sides and button attachments I to the bodice.
