PROSPECTING FOR GOLD.
Sir,—l read in the papers during the last few days that tho Government of Western Australia hud organised a Jarge prospecting party of a dozen or bo of inen to go out into the back blocks of the State and prospect for gold. Tho men were to be. paid sufficient wages to provide for their wants while out, and any jjold discovered was to be equally divided between the party and tho Government. I think this is an example our own Government might very well follow. A strong party sent out to prospect over . the Coromandel Peninsula would bo very likely to meet with some success. Tho discovery of a rich gold find on any of our goldfields just now would do more than anything to revive the drooping fortunes of the community. B.D.W.
