Continuance, we are told, u freedomfreedom to do what and for whom? To get drunk? There were 764 more convictions for drunkenness in 1920 than in 1919-a grand total of 8946 according to the police report. Many of these convicted persons would be grateful for Freedom from Temptation. Continuance, it is Baid, stands for Honesty, Stability, and Peace. Honesty —498 prosecutions and 229 convictions for breaches of the licensing laws by hotel keepers in 1920; 1279 breaches of Prohibition Orders in 1920. Stability—Yes, the certainty of domestic misery and | commercial "ruin of those who cannot control the craving for alcohol. The certain prosperity of a trade that lives on the ruins of other lives. Peace —Drunk and disorderly convictions m 1920. 394; using profane, indecent or obscene language, 910 convictions; indecent exposure and act, 204 convictions; assaults, 644 conviction&T-you know now much continuance of the liquor traffic is resnonsible for these. "Continuance." the apostle of " Honesty " prints in an issue dated April, 1922, a statement that beer may be obtained on medical prescriptions in the U.S.A. to the extent of. 2} gallons. The " Anti-Beer Bill " was signed by President Harding on November 23 last and nrohibits the manufacture, sale and prescription of beer for " medicinal" purposes, and the liquor traffic in New Zealand knows all about that. Beer cannot he obtained on medical prescription in the C.S.A. But " Continuance," apostle of ' Honestv," sava that it can, and prints a cable dated October 25 before the AntiBeer Bill was passed, and so hopes to jmake the public believe that high-power beer is legalised now in the U.S.A.—New I Zealand Alliance Publicity.
