THE HOUSING DIFFICULTY.
Sir,—We are still suffering seriously from want of housing accommodation. Now that new legislation has given relief to the landlord from troublesome tenants, and that building material has come down, surely something can be done by I speculative builders. Houses and rents were never so high, while the cost of living is coming down. If the houss owner still objects to troublesome tenants he has another method he can employ. The law prohibits bonuses, hut not guar antees; none but a dishonest tenant would object to a deposit of. say, £10 lo £20, as a guarantee that rent would be paid and the property taken (.are of. Cannot something be done to erect moro houses, in the interest of the builder, the tenant, and the general public, and to minimise the unemployment, which is now rife., Pro Bono Publico.
