TAKAPUNA BOROUGH.
QUESTION OF BRIDGES.. The Takapuna Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. A. M. Gould, presiding. There were also present: Messrs, A. F. Grant, J. W. Williamson, A. H. Wiikie. C. M. Carter, T. M-. Finlayson. A. W. Clarke, and J. Collins. A request for the substitution of a concrete bridgo for the existing wooden structure known as Sherriti's Bridge was made by a deputation of ratepayers introduced by Mr. A. Harris, M.P. The deputation said that the dangerous state of the road rendered tho work urstent. and they asked that the requisite amount be included in the council'n forthcominK loon proposals. Tho estimated cost was £400, and there was a probability of obtaining a Government subsidy of £350. The' Mayor stated, in reply, that the council regarded the work as urgent, but the matter involved the question of a larger bridge over another part of th? stream. Provided the subsidy were available and tho Waiternata County Council contributed, there would be little difficulty in the council finding the money. Referring to the decision of the council that the dan«crous footbridge over the Wairau Creek should be improved by the Castor Bay syndicate, which erected it, the Mayor stated that tho steps leading to the bridge had been removed by the syndicate, thus preventing publio access to the bridge. On the recommendation of the Public Services Committee it waa decided to accept the offer of the I>ilworth Truet Board for a renewal of the loaae for four years of the site of the sanitary depot in Eversleigh Road, subject to the Health Department allowing the land to be used for tho purpose.
