AUSTRALIA CRITICISED.
"SLEEPING SICKNESS." MS. HUGHES' ANGRY RETORT A. and N.Z. SYDNEY. Feb. 25. Referring to the criticism by Mr. S. W. B. McGregor, British Trade Commissioner to Australia, that Australia was suffering from sleeping sickness, Mr. W. M. Hughes stated to-day that Mr. McGregor was a Government paid official and should not criticise Australia. It was i beyond all bounds. Australia's High Commissioner would not similarly criticise the British Government. He invited Mr. McGregor to direct his attention to plenty of spots on the sun in England. "If we are suffering from paralysis here," remarked Mr. Hughes, "they are dead in England."
