——-♦ FARMS AND GUM AREAS. SITTINGS OF THE BOARD. The North Auckland Land Board nvt last week, the chairman, Mr. R. P. Greville, presiding. There were also present: Messrs. J. S. Wells, A. Finlayson, H. Aitkenhead, and V. Trounson. The board had a very heavy order paper, there being 164 cases on the main Land Act paper, 33 applications for houses and farms from soldiers, and 47 applications for advances for stock, a total of 244. Several applications by discharged soldiers and others for postponements of rent and interest were considered. The majority of the applications were reeomxmended for the favourable consideration of the Minister. In the case of dairy farmer applicants it was stipulated that an order for a reasonable proportion of the cream cheques should be asked for in order to liquidate the arrears as soon as> possible, Fifteen applications for gum-washing claims, mostly in the Wairoa district, were approved. Twelve applications in the Pakiri and Mangawai districts were adjourned for investigation, Forty claims already granted in Te Kopuru and Ruakaka districts were cancelled, as the applicants had either failed to pay the rent or to commence work. Nine applications for gum land were considered. In the caso of applications for section 7, block TV., Ranpunu, all applications were refused, as it is intended to subdivide the area. The application of H. G. Alder for a year to year lease of 20 acres of block VilL.Tutamoe, was approved, as was an application from J. Ross for a grazing lease over section 17, Puni parish. The application of the Australian Glass Company for 3J acres of the Prescott Settlement, near Penrose railway station, for a factory site was approved. Nine applications for transfer were either approved or recommended. Several cases of non-compliance with conditions were dealt with A careful classification J of the land comprised in the Otaia Kauri Gum Reserve, near Kaimaumau, was given careful consideration, and it was resolved that the areas containing no gum should be removed from the reservation and subdivided for selection. The board approved of the opening of Crown land recently acquired from the natives at Pakirj, and also of the opening of section 31, block IV., Mangakahia. —— ■
