NEW TRAWLER FROM HULL.

; THOMAS CURRELL ARRIVES. [ LONG STORMY VOYAGE. >. The trawler Thomas Currell, recently acquired by Sanford, Ltd., arrived at Auckland ft vsrterday afternoon after a pro-, .tracted voyage of three months from Hull, via ports. She-berthed at the Albert Wharf. Captain A. J. Herbert, who brought the vessel from England, reports that she left Hull en November 24 and called-at Gibraltar, Port Said, Perim, Colombo, Fremantle and Melbourne. The voyage was prolonged for about three weeks by almost continuous stormy weather. The vessel met with only about six days' fine weather during the voyage. In a storm off the coast OI Spain the vessel had to be kept slowly steaming head to a heavy sea to keep her from drifting on shore, in the vicinity of Valanno Light. " . The Thomas Currell is an Admiralty standard dais trawler arid wa3 built in. 1919. She was first used for mine-sweep-ing. She was next engaged fishing, and afterwards used as a fish carrier, taking fish to Germany. About a year ago she was laid up at Great Yarmouth until she was fitted up for her trip to New Zealand. She is an up-totdate North Sea trawler, built especially to withstand heavy weather, and is 70 tons smaller than the James Cosgrove, another of Sanford's trawlers, which is similar in design. The Thomas Currell's registered tonnage is 207 gross. She. is 115 ft. long with .a 23ft. beam and a 14ft. draught. She is fitttd with triple expansion Beadmore engines, fitted to drive the vessel 10 knots, a speed which she has exceeded. Sanford's fleet of trawlers at Auckland now numbers five—James Cosgrove, Baroona, Countess, Kahu, and Thomas Currell. It is intended to operate the new . trawler oh the West Coast, where schnapper are said to be of better quality, and where it is hoped to secure other varieties i of fish such as turbot, brill, and possibly , large sole's.
