POSTAL OFFICERS' PAY.
DEPARTMENTAL CIRCULARS!.
LOYAL ACCEPTANCE URGED.
Two circulars from the Post and Tele-
graph Department have been received by ' Auckland officers and employees of the department, containing the amounts of the salary reductions, and the department's reasons for the decreases. One circular states that the Secretary was confident tliat officers, from their
knowledge of the financial position, would appreciate tho necessity for the reduction in salaries. While the Act was under discussion, careful consideration was given to the interests of all the officers, and it was necessary to mrie the ratable reductions, in orljer to secure the required saving in expenditure. Provision has been made to assist those officers upon whom family hardships are brought by the reductions. The circular concluded with an appeal to officers to take reduction in a calm spirit. The Secretary hoped to report to the Postmaster-General that officers had waived objections that in normal times they would be expected to raise, and that they continued to render the Slate loyal and efficient service. The second circular announces the scale of reductions as fixed by the Act, to be operative from January i last.
