BUILDING TRADE WAGES.
REDUCTIONS ANNOUNCED.
THREEPENCE AN HOUR.
A reduction in the wages of carpenters, bricklayers, and other workers employed in the building trade has been resolved upon at a largely-attended meeting of the Auckland Builders and Contractors Union of Employers. The maximum rate for first-class carponters and joiners is reduced from 2s 9d to 2s 6d an hour and that for first-class bricklayers and plasterers from 3s to 2s 9d. All other men engaged will be paid award wages. The award rate, including bonuses, is 2s 3|d an hour for carpentors and joiners and 2s Sid for bricklayers and plasterers. Builders' labourers, who also have been paid in excess of the award scale for some time will henceforth be paid the award rate of Is IOJd an hour. These men have been receiving an average of about 2s an hour for some oopsiderable time. The reduced rates will come into operation as from February 24.
