TELEGRAM OF SYMPATHY.
A telegram referring to the allegatibng made by Mr. R. McCallum, M.P. for Wairau, in connection with tho purchase of the Motutara estate, has been received by Sir Edwin Mitchelson, M.L.C., from Colonel G. J. Smith, M.L.C. Colonel Smith was one of those who had negotiated for the purchase of the property prior to the Government taking it for soldier settlement. _ t Telegraphing from Christchurch, Colonel Smith says:—"l sympathise with you in Mr. McCallum's utterly unjustifiable attack, a s I know something of the property in question. I will bo in Auckland next week and will call on you." Sir Edwin said yesterday that lie had had letters and telegrams from all over New Zealand since the attack was mado public.
