ALLEGATIONS BY WIFE.
SUIT FOR SEPARATION. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] HAMILTON, Tuesday. A case of some interest was commenced in the Police Court, when Mrs. Rayner of Pukemiro, sought a separation from her husband, Alfred Rayner, on the grounds of persistent cruelty. She also asked for the custody of the two children. Mrs. Rayner gave evidence that the married in 1913. They lived happily until she went into hospital for an operation. On her return she noticed a difference in her husband. He was constantly calling at another woman's house. On the complainant remonstrating, the husband abused her and threatened to choke her. Rayner was seen wearing a ring given him by the other woman. As her husband continued abusing her, complainant went to her mother at Rotorua for a time, but, resolving to make a last effort to regain her husband'?, affection, returned home. Thinsrs became worse. On one occasion her husband thrashed her with a belt. Her husband did not drink.
Corroborative evidence was given by Mrs. Willie Rayner and Martha Robertgon.
The hearing was adjourned until Monday.
